Turtles and Reef Week: Citizen Science and Responsible Tourism in Marsa Alam

Featuring marine biologist Emilio Mancuso, this story highlights Turtles and Reef Week in Marsa Alam, a collaboration between Verdeacqua, WWF Travel, Compagnia del Mar Rosso, and Turtle Watch Egypt 2.0.

Combining responsible tourism and citizen science, participants survey seagrass meadows and coral reefs to collect sea turtle photo-identification data. The initiative demonstrates how eco-friendly travel directly supports long-term wildlife research and marine habitat protection.

As we celebrate 25 years of the IOSEA Marine Turtle MOU, we showcase some of the people, initiatives and communities that have contributed to marine turtle conservation across the region. Visit our Story Map to discover their stories.
