Connecting Education and Marine Research at Marsa Shagra

Along Egypt's Red Sea coast, marine turtle conservation is a team effort. Researchers from the University of Sussex, local dive centre staff from Marsa Shagra Village and passionate interns collaborate with Turtle Watch Egypt 2.0 to monitor and protect sea turtles. Through hands-on fieldwork, education and community involvement, this initiative highlights how academic partnerships and local support strengthen marine turtle conservation and monitoring efforts in Egypt.

In this interview, we hear from with Dr. Valentina Scarponi, Lecturer at the University of Sussex, two passionate students undertaking their internships, and the dedicated staff from the Marsa Shagra Village dive centre. They share what it means to take part in this work and why it matters.
