Sea Turtle Bycatch and Mitigation in the Indian Ocean and South East Asia Region

This report presents the results of the IOSEA Sea Turtle MOU Bycatch Questionnaire deployed in 2025 to stakeholders across the IOSEA region, and the subsequent analyses of the data that were collected as part of this process are presented in the results.

The survey helped in identifying current uses of bycatch mitigation measures to safeguard sea turtle species, and the current state of knowledge among stakeholders in regards to bycatch of sea turtles in the IOSEA region. While it does not prioritise high-impact fisheries, or provide time-bound action plans as required by the mandate, it identifies critical barriers and priority needs that can inform subsequent phases of implementation.
